There was a sort of similar post a few days ago from some guys starting in Dallas. You might want to look into that. NYE in Vegas can be wild. Guaranteed to be expensive unless you do something like I suggested in that other post. As I said, if they are blowing up a hotel or casino it is cool. BTW..its not a terrorist act, just a Las Vegas tradition. Just the name of the tour company grates me. But if they can offer a deal... might be the only cheap way. Other than that will you have a car? Coming to California without the ability to drive is considered a crime. Getting to San Diego is around 3 hrs. Maybe less depending on time of day. New Years anywhere involves high entry fees. It's become a rip off in many spots. I travel all over California and I consistently get the best hotel rates on Hotwire. You don't know the name of the hotel until you pay for it. But their lowest are things like Day's Inn. You don't get any hooker hotels. Couple of sources for San Diego info- www.signonsandiego.com. It is the local newspaper but has links to just about every tourist oriented web site in the county. The other is www.sdreader.com. Specializes in club, concert and restaurant listings. San Diego, while not as flashy as LA is more compact so you don't worry about spending 2 hrs. going from A to B. I operated out of San Diego for decades. One nice feature is that they keep the ghetto types in easily defined areas that tourists aren't liable to wander into. In LA it's all too easy to take the wrong off ramp and find your self in somewhere like Watts, East LA, West Hollywood or Compton and surrounded by third world types or deviants. The touristy stuff in San Diego is worthwhile.. Zoo, Sea World, Old Town. Speaking of third world. That corner of Mexico is unlike the rest. Tijuana for the experienced can be nice. I used to go down all the time for lunch with the head of Interpol and the rest of the gang when I had a gig there. Strolling down Revolucion can be safely done by anyone from families to sailors. Stay out of the tranny bars and zona norte and you are fine. Go into Caesars for a drink. Yep.. home of the salad. Don't go driving around looking for the real TJ.. you can get killed. You don't have time to go further south. I recommend you visit the Grand Canyon in Arizona if you have a car and have a couple of days to check it out from Las Vegas. You'll cross Hoover Dam and you can stay inside the park.
