Traveling under the age of 18, alone, will certainly make your trip more complicated. Most hotels/hostels require identification upon check in, which will confirm your age. Since most accommodations require guests who are renting rooms to be 18 years old or older, you may be denied a place to stay. Some airlines may or may not require a parent/guardian signature if you plan to fly alone. It would stink if you happened to be flying on that one day that someone does happen to check your ID and require a signature from someone who will be picking you up upon arrival at your destination. While this is somewhat unlikely because of your age and the fact that you may appear older rather than younger, it is still a possibility. Some of this could be solved if you are traveling with someone who is 18 or older. They can then be the person who can rent rooms, etc. It may make your trip quite a bit easier if you are willing to wait until you are 18 to travel alone through Europe. Best of luck! Backpacking through Europe will be great fun -- that won't be at all diminished if you wait just a bit until you are 18.
