I've recently learned that I can obtain a 6-12month leave of absence from my employer. My question is: can I pull off a RTW trip in the next month or two without an endless amount of planning? I want to leave asap. I have visited/backpacked through Western/S.E. Europe and have alwaystraveled without a fixed itinerary/agenda. Is it foolhardy to do this in re a RTW trip? Also, please provide any info regarding itineraries, required visas, immunization, COSTS....whatever, I wannago now. We do not plan on do any MAJOR hiking per se, just packing from bus to bus, down the street etc. no long, through the mountains type packing. The pack I have now is older so I will definitely need a new one (we will be gone a year) but I just can't get the inconvenience of the top loader. And yet, that is what everyone wants to sell me, so I'm wondering if I'm missing something. Any ideas?
