Central America by bus

I'd like to get on a bus in Mexico City or Tapachula and eventually end up in Colombia. Time is not a problem, but cost is. Has anyone done something similar?

I could use information on where to stop off, sights to see along the way, how to get around places where you can't go by land, and how long the toal trip would take if I didn't do any sightseeing.

Thanks

I am flying in and out of SJO and would like to rent a car and drive into Nicaragua, and Honduras - I have not been able to find a car company that allows this. Does anyone know of one? Even if there is an extra fee involved?

Travelling from Panama further South

See my previous question re getting to Panama.

Let's say I do get to Panama and would like to travel further south through South America by land and/or water at the lowest possible cost. Where's the best place to embark on a boat or plane and land somewhere in south America? No, I don't plan to go by bike or motorcycle.

Thanks for any help you can offer.

How do I get to Panama by land cheap?

I would like to get on a bus in Tapachula, Mexico and eventually wind up in Panama City.

If I were to go straight through how long would it take and how much might it cost?

What towns along the way have good, clean, comfortable places to stay? Low cost is a consideration.

What can you suggest for side trips to scenic, cultural and archeological sites?

Time is not important, I'm retired.

Any suggestions on making arrangements would be appreciated. My Spanish is good enough to get by.

Can I drive, with my dogs, from the U.S. through Mexico, Central America and South America?

I want to take a 1 year auto journey, with my dogs -- and imagine that I will need visas and papers and things (any idea about those "things" is greatly appreciated), but the threshold question I have is -- is it even possible to bring the car and the dogs with me - from the U.S. to Mexico through Central America and then South America, and back again?

Spanish Language Immersion in May - Central America?

Hello,

I know the question of Spanish Immersion programs has come up quite a bit, but due to my job I have a very small window of time (mid-to-late May) to work with in terms of travel. I'm a self-taught beginning/early intermediate spanish student and have been DYING to do a Spanish Immersion. I only have a week, though, and I want to make the best of it. I'm looking for a place with warm weather and, most importantly, vibrant culture -- where is the best place to spend a week in Mid May, in your opinion? I'm in New York and money is tight, so I'd love to stay in Central America or Mexico. A friend recommended Antigua or Xela, but said that I may run into trouble since the rainy season starts right around the time I'd be going. And Antigua sounds a bit touristy. Is it too wet and cold then, do you think? Some other places I've considered:

Nicaragua (Esteli, Leon, Granada, Masatepe-Masaya, Managua, San Juan del Sur)
Mexico (Guadalajara, Marida)
Ecuador (Cuenca)
Guatemala (Antigua, Xela)

Any thoughts on what these places are like in May? And I know other posts have addressed this, but any other personal recommendations for language schools are greatly appreciated.

Gracias!
Andrea
