Question
What's a good chinese restaurant in Chinatown?
I like House of Nanking but they only have one dish really, that fried chicken one. I am faint of heart when it comes to this stuff - really what I'm looking for is american style chinese.

I would recommend wandering around Chinatown and finding a restaurant crowded with locals. This is usually how I judge.
I live in SF, and rarely go to Chinatown (too many people), so can't recommend anywhere specific. I do know, though, that locals frequent good places. This is how I choose authentic restaurants throughout the City.
Some of the best Chinese restaurants are "off-Broadway" in surrounding neighborhoods -
e.g. House of Nanking is decent but consider nearby Louie's California Chinese - understated surprise or Yank Sing in the Financial District for dim sum.
If you're willing to be adventurous and willing to travel, the real deal is in the Richmond District out west or south of Golden Gate Park in the Sunset. But that's a story for another day!
