The smallest island is impossible to define. A rock or a piece of coral could be defined as an island. Some bits of land are only above water at low tide.
As for the largest island, the largest islands by area in the Pacific Ocean are as follows:
New Guinea (PNG) 785,753km²
Borneo (Ind,Mal,Bru) 748,168km²
Sumatra (Indonesia) 443,066km²
Honshū (Japan) 225,800km²
Sulawesi (Indonesia) 180,681km²
South Island (NZ) 145,836km²
Java (Indonesia) 138,794km²
North Island (NZ) 111,583km²
Luzon (Philippines) 104,688km²
Mindanao (Philippines) 97,530km²
Hokkaidō (Japan) 78,719km²
I would put the "islands" of the Marshall Islands in the running for smallest. I put islands in quotes because they are sections of atolls, not true islands.
Ebeye, where I lived along with about 14,000 other people, is 1 mile long & 200 yards wide. There are many other islands in the Marshalls that are less populated or unpopulated that may beat Ebeye.
