Question
Looking for trekking route suggestions in NZ (possibly hut to hut)?
I am planning a trip to NZ in September and would like to spend at least 5 days (more if it works) on trail. Not sure where to start looking. Any information, contact info, or suggestions are welcome. We are reasonably experienced hikers but no ice or climbing gear.

hey ya mate...if u wanna go for the long haul...abel tasman could be pretty good. it offers 1-6 days i belive...u can opt out whenever by taking a water taxi back to the start. the best trek to do tho is the tongariro crossing just south of lake taupo in the north island. its only about 5 or 6 hours, but its excellent. most treks i came across were only 1-2 days...all very good tho.
best of luck
The Department of Conservation (DOC) runs those huts so they are a good place to start looking for information. Be aware you sometimes have to book huts on popular treks months in advance. http://doc.govt.nz/publications/parks-and-recreation/
I would also suggest having a look at the Lonely Planet book "Tramping in New Zealand" (a new edition was came out recently). You could probably get this from a public library and just copy the pages you need. Many libraries in New Zealand have this book, although it would be best to look through that information before you arrive if your time here is limited.
Have fun
