Question

Looking For Off The Beaten Path Attractions

Hello,
I'm planning a 4 day visit to SF sometime this summer. I'm staying with my elderly aunt and will be spending most of my time in the city with her. However, I'm hoping to take a day by myself and explore the city.

I've already been to SF once last year and went to all of the main attractions (Palace of Fine Arts, Alamo Square Park, Painted Ladies, Basillica and Mission Delores, Musee Mechanique, Fisherman's Warf, Golden Gate Bridge, Haight/Ashbury, Golden Gate Park, Japanese Gardens, Castro District, Chinatown.) And I visited a few popular sites (Vesuvio's, City Lights Bookstore, Coit Tower, Purple Onion, Lombarde St.) I also spent a few hours in Sausalito.

SF is my most favorite city that I have ever visited. I just know there are TONS of things that I haven't seen yet or even know about. So I'm hoping that you (who live there) can give me some tips and suggest places a little more off the beaten path that you think I should visit. Or maybe there are some pretty popular attractions that I missed within the places I visited.

I appreciate any suggestions. To give you an idea of things I prefer, I really enjoyed visiting old hippy haunts like Haight-Ashbury (even though it is very touristy now), I loved Musee Mechanique, I loved people watching in the Golden Gate Park, and I love shopping at places that sell funky clothes at a great price :) I'm also in to photography and will spend a lot of time taking pictures too. I once read a novel that talked about a huge (East) Indian flea market and how there is a lot of Indian culture in the Bay Area. I LOVE India. Where can I find this stuff?

Thanks in advance.

-Callie
