Question
Large deposits up front?
I'm travelling to South Africa next year and am considering booking part of the trip through an organised company. Trip to Kruger from Johannesburg then flight to Livingstone and trip to Vic Falls. All sounds good except that they are asking for a 50% deposit up front via the net.
Is this normal practice? Can't afford to get ripped off!
Thanks.

I have done that in England, Spain, Brazil, Mexico, Argentina and Costa Rica.
In fact, many tour companies require 100% some time before the travel date.
If you can't check the company out to your satisfaction on the net, you have at least four possibilities.
One, is to see a live travel agent in your home country and ask if they are a reputable firm.
Two, try contacting the Department/Ministry of Tourism in South Africa and see if you can find out what kind of reputation the tour company has.
Three, Google the name of the tour company. If they have a bad reputation, it'll probably show up.
Four, post the name of the tour company here with your question.
P.S. Try www.tripadvisor.com to search for the company.
Yes,You need to do exactly that(refer to number one answer).About the deposit, you need to pay the 50% especially now that the world cup is going there soon and the rooms will be fully booked.
