Question
I was also told to wait until we are in Bangkok to get Chinese visa as it is supposed to be easier and faster. Is this the case?

It can be, but I know when I got mine here in Canada it only took 4 business days to get it, which was pretty fast.
I realize you asked in May but maybe you are still around. I have gotten Chinese Visas in Bangkok on two seperate occasions. I had no problems and got them within 48 hours. I sent for one while in the States and it took two weeks probably because of snail mail.
