I am flying in and out of SJO and would like to rent a car and drive into Nicaragua, and Honduras - I have not been able to find a car company that allows this. Does anyone know of one? Even if there is an extra fee involved?

What reason do the car companies give you when they say they don't allow it?

You probably won't find one. The best way is to go by bus. Fares are very cheap, they are safe if you don't put your bag in the compartment underneath or leave them unattended. Sometimes you have to buy ticket the day before you travel. Pura vida!
