Good, hopefully cheap accomodation in Bend?

I love the mcmenamin's hotel. An old school. Multiple bars and an amazing hot pool.

Last I was in Bend (April 2007) there was no cheap accomadation. Mcmennimans no longer has a bunk room and there is no hostel in town. I drove to Smith rock and slept in the parking lot. It was a bit cold, but I saved $100 per night and woke up to the most amazing sunset and rock formations.

I've stayed at several of the lower priced places in Bend. The Dunes Motel is OK for 1 night. If you are spending more time, the Phoenix Inn Suites are nice and close to downtown.
