Question

Can I drive, with my dogs, from the U.S. through Mexico, Central America and South America?

I want to take a 1 year auto journey, with my dogs -- and imagine that I will need visas and papers and things (any idea about those "things" is greatly appreciated), but the threshold question I have is -- is it even possible to bring the car and the dogs with me - from the U.S. to Mexico through Central America and then South America, and back again?

Yes, you can.
It's fairly easy getting the dogs into Mexico as long as you have current health certificates. I don't know the regulations for getting them back into the States. Friends have done it and didn't complain.

Rules change frequently, especially in Mexico, so check with the closest Mexican Consulate and US government websites.

I read somewhere that there is a small stretch between Panama and Colombia where is it not possible - It is called the Darien Gap. Having not done this personally; I'd strongly recommend further research on this issue.
