Question

Can anybody suggest an alternative independent trek in Nepal other than ABC, Annapurna circuit, Jiri - Namche - Kala Pata - Gokyo as we have already done these?!

Given what we have already seen we would like to return to do another (mostly independent) challenging trek. It seems other than those areas mentioned the choice is either a fully organised camp trek to say Island Peak or an organised trip to the restricted areas (Dolpo, Mustang, Kachenjenga). I don't mind it being partially guided but not sure of the logistics of arranging this without repeating much of what we have already done. Any suggestions?

Try the Langtang - to Helambu trek north of Kathmandu Valley It has two entry possibilities and can be made as a long round trek of 21 days or a short trek of 10 to eleven days. Entry points are: Sundarijal, north east of Kathmandu, over the Gosaikunda to Singh Gompa, down to Langtang, then over the Ganja La pass 5200 meters down to Helambu Tarkegyang but behind the pass down to Helambu it is very tricky and you should have a guide. Without guide you may get lost in the "Man trap Yangri Khola Gorge" and will never get out! Dangerous, because behind the pass to get to the trekking way one has to go diagonally upward to the right again and cross a few small rivulets. Never follow the main river down! The shorter trek is The Gosaikunda trek from Sundarijal to Dhunche and there is a bus to Kathmandu. Also one can start the long trek Langtang -over the Ganja La in Dhunche and avoid the Gosainkund by taking the Bus to Dhunche. That makes the Langtang -Helambu trek a bit shorter, say 16 days (if you are not getting lost in the Yangri Khola gorge!) Besides. Now it is rain season in Nepal and the trek is NOT RECOMMENDED ...too wet, too cold and too many leeches. Lodges may be closed too! Actually trekking in the rain season from June till mid-September is the wrong time! If you want to do something else...ask!
