Question
2 week itinerary
Hello, we are planning two weeks in Argentina in September. Definite destinations are Buenos Aires and Iguazu Falls. We would also like to visit some wine territory close to the Andes. Wondering about flying into BA or can we fly to Igazu from somewhere else between there and Chicago that would be cheaper?, then doing BA in the middle, and then going west to a destination you'd suggest. Initially thought Mendoza, crossing over to Santiago to fly home, but we are open. Do not want to cross back and forth to and from BA just to fly in and out. Thanks, Jenniah

Hi Jenniah ~
I'm surprised you haven't gotten any answers since you asked over a month ago! I hope you have your itinerary pretty much figured out by now, but maybe I can suggest a few other things for you to check out. Two weeks is a short period of time to see a lot of things, unless what you really want is to see a bunch of stuff and not get any deeper into the experience. You may also be spending a lot of time just getting to places, so you'll want to think about that as well. My best suggestion for only two weeks is to choose maybe three important locations that you want to see, and really see them.
Colonia, Uruguay is a 15th or 16th century town that has some great old buildings and things to see, and a beautiful view from the top of the lighthouse. It is the port city where you can take the Buquebus (ferry) to Buenos Aires. I didn't get to spend a lot of time there because we were running late for our ferry, but hope to go back. It would be a fun place to go for a day before you hit Buenos Aires, or take a one- or two-day trip there from Buenos Aires.
You'll need to check out airfares online to see the best deals. And don't always go just for the multi-destination all-in-ones that the websites show you. I saved a LOT of money just purchasing one stretch at a time, but be sure to check arrival and departure times so you have enough layover time between flights if you have to catch another one pretty quickly.
It may sound corny and more seasoned travelers may not agree with me, but check out Anthony Bourdain on www.travelchannel.com . He has a Chile episode that may give you some ideas. Also, there was an article recently on BootsnAll called Breakfast in Buenos Aires, dinner in Machu Picchu that was really interesting and may give you some ideas.
Good luck!
